Mammograms
A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast used to detect abnormalities or changes in the breast tissue. Mammograms are also performed on healthy breasts to provide a baseline reference for comparison. Beginning around age 40, a mammogram is part of a regular well woman exam. Mammograms are recommended annually unless otherwise specified by your healthcare provider. Women with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors should talk with their provider about when to have their first mammogram and how often they need mammograms.
Women's Health Center of Oregon provides mammograms in our office. A technologist specifically trained in mammography will be taking your films. These films are then read by a radiologist.
Instructions for your mammogram appointment:
- If you have implants, please let us know at the time you schedule your mammogram to be sure we have allotted enough time for your appointment.
- Please do not wear deodorant, lotion, or powder below the neck or above the waist on the day of your appointment.
- It is easiest if you wear a 2 piece outfit.
