Surgery

TAH (Total Abdominal Hysterectomy)

Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH) involves the removal of the uterus and cervix through an incision in the lower abdomen. The fallopian tubes and ovaries may also be removed if medically necessary.

TVH (Total Vaginal Hysterectomy)

Total Vaginal Hysterectomy is appropriate for treating conditions where the uterus is not too large and a total examination of the abdomen is not required. In this procedure the uterus and cervix are removed through an incision inside the vagina. The fallopian tubes and ovaries may also be removed if medically necessary.

Anterior/Posterior Repair

Anterior and/or Posterior repair involves tightening the anterior and/or posterior vaginal wall to repair vaginal wall prolapse or bulging. An incision is made through the vagina and supportive tissue between the vagina and bladder is folded and stitched. This brings the urethra and bladder back into the proper position. This procedure can vary depending on the severity of the prolapse.

C- Section (Cesarean Section)

A Cesarean Section (C-Section) is the delivery of a baby through an incision in the mother's lower abdomen and uterus. A C-Section can be planned or unplanned. Although most babies can be delivered through the birth canal, there are cases when a C-Section is required for the safety of the mother and the baby. When your doctor knows about a problem ahead of time, the C-Section may be planned, but an unplanned C-Section might also be done because of an issue that arises during labor. If you have questions or concerns about the when and why a C-Section might be done, please see your health care provider.

D&C (Dilation and Curettage)

A D&C is often performed due to 1st trimester miscarriage. This procedure may also be done to treat irregular or abnormal bleeding. During this procedure the cervix is opened and the contents of the uterus removed. Some women can safely miscarry on their own without a D&C; however, in situations where the miscarriage is incomplete, a D&C will need to be performed. Whether or not to have a D&C following a miscarriage is something to discuss with your healthcare provider. A D&C may be performed in the office or at the hospital.
